An X-ray of the punctuality of Spain’s railway network.

I used to take the Euromed from Valencia to Barcelona. It used to depart late. And it would also arrive late. Sometimes I was able to recover some of the money, but the time…

Once, Renfe dared to tell me that they had no record of any delays. Of course, they had no problem after I filed a complaint.

But this affront inspired this project. Renfe (the operator) only publishes train schedules. Adif (the infrastructure operator) does publish data about which trains depart and arrive, and whether they are delayed, for example, here is Valencia station, Joaquín Sorolla. So the delay my train was carrying should have appeared here. The problem is that you can only see the current moment.

This data is public according to Adif itself (Transparency), but it can only be consulted through Adif’s website, and only for the current moment.

That’s why Trenómetro exists: it monitors, stores, and displays data on trains and delays at some train stations across Spain.
